Just one pic each!!!!!!

We set ourselves a challenge, we are each to choose just one pic from our 9 month Edventure and say something about it…it’s gonna be a challenge…

By Colette

It’s impossible to choose just one picture that’s sums up our trip, so I’ve gone for this one. It was our first days in Sri Lanka, back in December 2017, we were jet lagged, pasty white, short dark hair and a lot slimmer. We were tired and dazed but ready for our Edventure. This was taken in the back of a tuck tuck, holding on for dear life, zooming through the streets of Colombo in 33* heat having only just left England which was about 7* cold. We had no idea of the journey ahead but we were happy to be on our very special trip of a lifetime.

Same here, how do you boil it down to 1? Do you pick a place, a scene, a moment or activity? Who should it include if anyone? And is it ok to leave somebody out. Well yes, if it’s yourself I suppose. Someone had to take it after all. This was the afternoon before our hike down into the Grand Canyfon. We did it!

Our nine month world trip has been an amazing trip but this is the best view – from Iguazu Falls in Brazil.
I’m looking forward to getting home and seeing you all.

My caption for my picture is going to start with a phrase from the Greatest Showman:
“Mountains and valleys, and all that will come in between, desert and ocean, you pull me inland together we’re lost in a dream. High in the sky we can see the whole world down below us, never sure will you catch me if I should fall? It’s all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking look, walking a tightrope, with you oo oo oo oo”
I first saw the Greatest Showman with mummy on an 11 hour flight, since then I have watched it about 16/ times, and I have practiced my favourite songs over and over again, my favorite songs are:
The Other Side
Rewrite The Stars
This Is Me
And A Million Dreams !
For me this phrase shows how much time we have spent together, and how we now see that we all, should do it more often. I’ve really enjoyed this journey that I have taken with my family and I really appreciate it, but now I am ready to come home and see you all, I’m looking forward to going back to school as well!

Grand Canyon

This small but significant portion of our trip was a huge milestone for us. It was a year ago when we started to plan our attack on the Grand Canyon, we’ve researched it to within an inch of its life, we’ve looked at pictures with the kids, we’ve compared previous hikes in different countries to the trails of the Grand Canyon so the kids can get an idea of the task ahead. My Kindle!!!!!!!!

We left our home in Chinley in December, just after Christmas when I got my best Christmas present ever; it was a beautiful kindle with a cover designed to look like a paint pot. It has a back light, so I can read at night and in a very dark tent when we are camping.

The Ficus Tree

We are now in Costa Rica with literally all the sound of the rainforest around us, I am amazed at how we are constantly in the jungle, it took a bit of going up and down the same road a couple of hundred times until we finally found the tiny entrance to the Ficus tree down a wet slippery leafy trail which we all slipped on at least once or twice.

Sea Scootering.

This video was filmed at Ningaloo Reef / Coral Bay in Western Australia, it’s took us until now to get round to making this little short.

The Sea Scooter is a little jet powered hand held thing that pulls you through the water.

New Zealand

Geyser

Today we went to see the Lady Knox Geyser at  Wai-O-Tapu, a Geyser is basically a mini volcano except it doesn’t shoot out lava it shoots out hot  water at over 100*C in New Zealand (correction, not all over NZ, mainly in North Island, in Rotarua) we were really aware of the volcanic action underneath the ground. Luge – zoomy.

We went to a luge on a mountain in Queenstown. We got there by going on a gondola, that is the same as a cable car.  Then we got on the ski lift to take us to the top of the mountain. From the top, we could see the city and the big lake – . Lake Wakatipu  It was a great view but it was really cold. Read more “Luge – zoomy.”

My birthday was awesome

Sydney Harbour Bridge climb

Me and mummy took the bus into Sydney city and we started to look for the bridge climb signs, it was harder than estimated to find the bridge climb because everybody thought that we wanted to walk over the bridge on the normal footpath so they gave us the wrong directions, eventually we found it with one minute to spare we shoved a boiled egg into our mouths and we headed to the changing rooms. Giant Redwood Trees, The Triplet Falls, And The Ropes…

The Great Ocean Road

Giant Redwood Trees:

Our first stop from Otway National Park was the Giant Redwood Trees, the first thing to note about them was that they were massive, not like Chinley parks trees version of massive, these trees were the real deal , daddy said that they came from America and I think that we will see loads more of them in America.

From Perth to Coral Bay

WA- From Perth!

It was 1 am when we finally arrived in Western Australia. I got pushed on an airport trolley along with all the bags, into the car pick up and drop of, we were there to pick up a car – not literally though! We eventually found our apartment in Fremantle – a lovely town with lots of fab things to do – and then we collapsed onto our beds because we were soooo tired.  Read more “From Perth to Coral Bay”

Bangkok – Just for us kids!

We went to Bangkok on the train., the porters said they they sold bananas and juice. Okay after we had our tea of soup mushrooms rice and vegetables, the porter made our beds for us to sleep in. I’ll tell you how they made our beds.
They put the chairs down and made one bed with them and then they pulled the other bed down from the top, from the roof.

The awesome elephant sanctuary

After leaving the island of Koh Lanta ,we took a plane to Chiang Mai from Krabi ( the not so busy ) airport. I personally I didn’t like the Air Asia flights because it was a small plane and it was a little bit bumpy, the staff were all great and all that but the thing I didn’t exactly like was the take off and landing when we set off from Krabi and landed in Chiang Mai. ATVing in Thailand

We went on a quad bike for the first real time ever ( seen as though I can’t remember the time when we went on a baby track in France !) But this track was bumpy , muddy and a little bit over whelming for my liking . CHECK THIS OUT !

It’s a shit business….

Morning runs on the golden sands. Playing beach football ’till the sun goes down. Catching up on your reading and on the vitamin D intake. It’s hard but someone’s got to do it.

Sri Lanka

Ella, vomit and spots.

We ended our 10 days in Unawatuna with a visit to a little beach; Dalawella is shallow, calm and clear. I won’t go on too much about the turtles we snorkelled with but I will just say it was truly spectacular and to share the experience with John and the kids too was amazing. We also went to Jungle Beach, which again was gorgeous but a bit too busy as it was so small and had too many smoking Russians. You know how I feel about smoking (if you don’t, where have you been?) and I’m pleased to announce the Sri Lankans in general don’t smoke, it’s the Europeans and Russians you’ll smell first. Beaches and a day at school

Today we went to the Unawatuna school in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰. We all got lots of high fives from the children who attended the school, we had to board a van with 2, 18 year olds because they taught at the school that we were going to. When we got there the English teachers (who were from England but had only been there for 4 months! And had all ready learnt how to count to 10 in Sinhalese!!!!!!! )  Their names were Megan and Natalie they were really nice .

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Business idea no.1…Tuktuks in Chinley. We’ve spent the last 8 months researching, child car seats, child safety rules in different countries, top end insurance for our trip, safety this, safety that, then we go and squeeze the four of us into a bloody tuktuk which is basically a 125cc moped with a cart on the back – in the busiest city in Sri Lanka where there’s only one rule of the road…that’s…there are no rules. Everybody abides by this important rule so it works just fine.

5 days to go and we’ve started packing, I think the boys have got the cozzies mixed up.

Biscuit Mania

Henna’s undertaking a major farewell present task! A card and a world themed chocolate chip cookie for all her classmates!

Arlo played a big supporting role in this and then decided to hand out chocolates to all his classmates after we used up all our ingredients.

10 days to go!

Arlo’s adventure

I’m looking forwards to meet elephants in my heart

I’m sad about missing school, my friends and playing tig.

This is Spencer, we’re brothers

England

Don’t forget Spencey!

Henna’s busy making a note for the inside of her suitcase! Mega important that we never leave Spencer Bear behind!

I need one that says don’t forget everything else but there’s not a suitcase lid in the world big enough to fit a list that long!

What more do we need?

img_5900.jpgPassports, jab certificates, sun cream, insect repellent, hand sanitiser and credit cards…. just need a clean pair of knickers and we’re off.

MY FEELINGS, BY HENNA

I am really excited for our world trip , but there a few good and bad things about going around the world . The good bit is that we get to go and see all these wonderful places in lots of different countries . The bad news is that we have to miss school and it won’t all be to a regular daily basis , I think I’m going to miss the routine of a normal day at school. I do and also don’t want to miss school because I shall miss all my friends especially my close ones, luckily I have most of their email addresses so I can keep in touch with them .

Places to stay.

We’ve been busy since April 2017 researching, planning and deciding where we would like to go and where we would like to stay. It’s really important to me to know where we’ll be staying each night…no, we’re not winging it and ‘just going with the flow’ – this is a military like fine tuned operation, organised, safe and comfortable.

When you’ve got two young kids travelling around the world with you, ‘winging it’ is not an option.

Here are some of the accommodations we’ve booked up to now, from campervans to tents to lodges to cabins to buses to trains carriages to hotels to treehouses to sky high apartments to jungle yurts to farmstays to homestays…not too shabby eh?
